Finally, the first cross between Salsa and McCarthys  Jessie James of Rivenburgh! Catty, as his mom is known, is Jessie's first daughter who we bought from Annette Andreas when she was just a baby. Donatello is totally amazing - he looks like young full size foal, with tons of leg, a small tight body, and the cutest sculpted head with a huge diamond. An exciting brother to Mandolin and Designer Genes, this colt is full of himself! He has four white socks, and a small white saddle high on his withers. He is already showing signs of turning that dark mahogany color of his siblings. He actually named himself as we watched him "lock" and then "load" and then do a fancy pirouette and take off running! 7/2/12 Bay Roan Colt

Ellie's first baby is a small, correct colt of the most unusual color. He must be a bay roan, though he could turn "blue" roan as his coat comes in. He surprised us by coming while no one was home. Guess that isn't too unusual for horses, but we really didn't think Ellie was that ready! We should have known, though, as it was a surprise that Ellie was even pregnant. She was in driving training with Matt when it was discovered she was in foal! So this colt is a total surprise!

When I compare this colt to his full brother, Amigo, I am not sure I am not seeing a re-creation. Redi has the longest, most hooked neck of any of Salsa's foals so far, and his hip is amazing. He has that total Salsa "look", from end to end. He has been lab tested to be a silver bay - a rare and beautiful color for a rare and beautiful colt. We knew Rose would be a good cross with Salsa, but this filly is even more refined, upright and elegant that I expected. She is the smallest so far, and the most refined. She makes me look twice as she is running about the pasture, as I think Marimba is back! An elegant dished head with tiny, pointed ears, a hookey neck and a long, level hip - she as all of the qualities we expect from our Salsa foals. She is AMHA and AMHR futurity nominated and is parent qualified.

Chestnut Colt with Star 4-8-2010

Missy's colt is chestnut with a big white star. He has an amazing, short sculpted head and a long neck set very high. He reminds me of Amigo when he was born. This boy's hip is long and already level and he has a nice, short back.  As he gets older he is getting darker and darker, with black around his eyes and in his neck. I think he is going to be a stunning liver chestnut color!  Plans have changed for Avatar and he is now offered for sale.

You can tell when a foal is going to be the clown of the pasture when she falls into the pond the first day she is out in the backyard! Mia is a delightful filly, and my oh my Momma Mia she is a beauty! She is Amigo's full sister and Sunny has done it again. That incredible front end with the "Salsa Hook" in her neck.
